SYRV is a nonprofit organization established to enable travelers and contributors to support developing countries through education, social development, and local engagement. We are committed to creating & sustaining programs that provide meaningful contribution and social responsibility through voluntourism.
We work closely with community leaders and in developing countries to identify core needs, while utilizing the skill set, values and passions of our travelers and contributors, to insure a fully integrated experience.
Project Lagoon (www.ProyectoLaguna.com) is a US Registered 501(c)(3) Charitable Foundation and also a Nicaragua Registered Non-Governmental Aid Organization (NGO).
SYRV has partnered with Project Lagoon on all of its fundraising and volunteer efforts in Nicaragua. Upon request Project Lagoon will supply all donors with the necessary papers to be used with their tax filings.
As of May 2009, SYRV contributors & travelers have completed the following projects in Jiquilillo & Chinandega, Nicaragua –
Transported 750lbs of donations including clothing, shoes, sports equipment, water purifying system, and more
Raised $1500 to purchase the water purifier, replacement filters and the building materials used to build the shelter around the well and system
Donated 24,000 gallons of clean drinking water through a water purifier and built secure shelter that collects and purifies additional rain water
Fed 200 children who live at the dump yard
Donated 200 lbs of clothing to the families at the dump yard
Donated over 300 pair of shoes to the local families
Donated 150 RVCA shirts to kids
Donated baseball equipment and jerseys to the local baseball teams
Donated surfboard to Carlo (local kid) who was surfing on a freezer door
Taught the local kids how to surf
Donated toothbrushes and toothpaste to the school
Donated sports equipment to the school
